Dr. Abdullah Sezer is a specialist in Medical Genetics and serves as the Medical Director of DAMAGEN Genetic Diseases Evaluation Center. He graduated from Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2015 and completed his residency training in Medical Genetics at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 2021. With approximately 10 years of experience in rare diseases and clinical genomics, Dr. Sezer has also obtained the European Certificate in Medical Genetics and Genomics (ECMGG).
In his clinical practice, he is involved in the diagnosis and evaluation of genetic diseases across a broad age range, from the prenatal period to adulthood. His primary areas of interest include syndromic and neurodevelopmental disorders, multiple congenital anomalies, skeletal dysplasias, and neuromuscular diseases. He has extensive experience in the clinical interpretation of next-generation sequencing and genomic analyses, genotype–phenotype correlation of rare variants, and the investigation of novel disease genes in undiagnosed cases.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Sezer actively contributes to scientific research aimed at elucidating the molecular basis of rare genetic diseases. His research integrates genomic data with detailed clinical phenotyping, family studies, and, when necessary, cellular or experimental disease models, with a focus on identifying novel gene–disease associations and understanding disease mechanisms. He has published more than 50 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals and has led or contributed to the first identification of approximately 10 genetic diseases or novel gene–disease associations. In addition to his scientific publications, he continues to serve as an academic editor and reviewer for several international journals.
